Frequently Asked Questions

Where are you located?
I live in Northern Michigan but due to the beauty of technology, I see clients online throughout Michigan.
How does Online Therapy work? Is it as effective as meeting in person?
Therapy is about the relationship between therapist and client, and I have found that meeting online is just as effective as in-person therapy. Plus, you don’t have to get in your car and fight traffic to get to an office!
Do I need special equipment for online therapy?
No. A phone, a tablet or computer with a good Internet connection is all that is needed.
How is online therapy confidential?

I use a video platform that is HIPAA compliant (privacy protected). In addition, the same laws that regulate in-person therapy for confidentiality in the mental health field apply to video sessions. I work in a private office and ask that you choose a place in your home or office (or your car!) that is private so others cannot listen in.

What is your professional training?
I have had two careers. My first career was as a nurse. Most of my nursing career was in cancer nursing and hospice. From there I realized I wanted to work specifically in mental health, which led to my career as a therapist.
How do I make an appointment?

Call me at (231) 338-6173 or email me at pam@pamgrzech.com. We’ll set up a 20-minute free consultation and set an appointment for the first session if you wish.

How long is a session?
Sessions run for about 50 minutes.
Do you accept Insurance?

I do not participate with most insurance plans directly. However, your insurance may reimburse your costs. If so, I will gladly provide you with the appropriate paperwork to submit. You can call the number on the back of your insurance card to ask if you have mental health benefits and if they will reimburse you for seeing an out-of-network provider. Also, you would want to ask if your deductible has been met for the year.

My decision not to accept insurances was made with you in mind. Some insurances limit the number of sessions they will cover, and I feel that decision is one best made by you and me, not a corporation. In addition, insurance requires personal information to be revealed, and I want to respect your privacy.

What forms of payment do you accept?
I accept all debit/charge cards as well as HSA/FSA payments.
What is your cancellation policy?
I reserve our appointment time specifically for you, so I ask that you provide me with a 24-hour notice if you need to cancel. Appointments not canceled in advance will be charged.
How often are sessions scheduled?
This depends on your needs. Most often, weekly sessions are recommended. However, this is something we will collaborate on.
What is EMDR?
EMDR is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy. It is a form of therapy specifically designed for trauma recovery. Together, we will determine if it is right for you and your situation.
You mentioned you are a Christian. How does that impact your work as a therapist?
Some clients are more comfortable with a therapist who shares their faith perspective. Having said that, I see clients from all walks of life and do not “push” Christianity or religion on anyone.
How do I know what to look for in a therapist?
The right therapist for you is one with whom you feel comfortable, one who listens to your needs, and helps guide you to the roots of your emotional distress.
Are you taking new clients?
Yes, I am taking new clients.
What do you do for fun?
In my free time, I enjoy long walks in nature, cooking, and reading.
What is your favorite vacation?
The best vacation is at a beach!
